Football season is in full swing, and I was able to join the Alpha Alpha Chapter of BYX at NC State for a weekend full of rush activities, tailgating, meetings and football. The men began pre-rush activities when school started in mid-August and were able to wrap up rush and interviews while I was in town.
This visit kicked off my last semester on staff as a full-time BYX National Advisor. The men rolled out the red carpet for me and made it a memorable trip. It is exciting to see how these guys have grown up over the past two and a half years, but it is also difficult to fully grasp how quickly time flies and the reality of change.
Friday afternoon I caught up with some of the members before we headed over to formal dinner, and we were able to prepare the spaghetti dinner for the final rush event of the fall. Several potentials came out and joined the brothers for the special event.
Saturday morning we woke up to a beautiful fall day in Raleigh, North Carolina. Adam Cheek, the chapter president, took a couple guys and me to the North Carolina State Farmer’s Market Restaurant to kick off the day. I had a half-chicken—fried, literally. Throughout my visit, the common denominator was… fried food!
The brothers hosted a great tailgate Saturday for the game against the Richmond Spiders. We had to circle around until they opened the gate for everyone to come in for tailgating, but the guys have started setting up right in line with the other Greeks. The tailgate had cornhole, burgers, etc. but one of the highlights was that the local frozen yogurt company brought some fro-yo for BYX and those there! Several potential pledges came out for the event, and I enjoyed getting to meet them. There are guys that have lived locally and all over the world, and I think that this pledge class will do great things for the Alpha Alpha Chapter.
The brothers and potentials came out in full force to support the Wolfpack, and they represented BYX well on their campus through the tailgating experience.
Sunday night I met with the officer corps before chapter and discussed the goals and the vision of the men. They are excited for the new pledge class and a new semester to be challenged through brotherhood and unity. This chapter really excels in having strong relationships with their brothers and being able to hold each other accountable. They genuinely understand the purpose of BYX, and they have constantly been willing to try new things to get involved on campus.
