MIZ-ZOU! Chants were everywhere last week when I joined the Sigma Chapter of BYX for a few days and for their first football game as an SEC school. The trip was loaded with festivities from start to end.
Friday night was big/little ceremony, and then the men woke up and threw their first tailgate of the season! I partnered with chapter president, Cole Crawford, in an attempt to put together a charcoal grill. After conquering the assembly of the grill, Cole showed everyone how much of a grill master he is. The Missouri brothers hosted a hopping tailgate and encouraged national unity by having several brothers from the Georgia Chapter join them. After going to the Missouri–Georgia game and getting a taste of the Zou, several brothers headed over to the house of a bunch of the brothers for the after party activities.
Throughout the trip, it was exciting to see how this chapter continues to grow and develop while striving after the Lord. At the tailgate Saturday, I was able to see three recent alumni and hear how BYX has impacted them post-college. The new brothers from last school year have already stepped up, and they are building on the foundation that was laid before them. Several of the new members are involved in chair positions and have stepped up as leaders in the chapter.
Sunday the chapter had a cookout with a sorority on campus, which conveniently happened to be on the prettiest weekend! Vice President Kevin Reape has lined up quite the social calendar this semester for the men to enjoy brotherhood and unity.
Monday was crammed full with meetings, but it is exciting to see God working in these men’s lives. I have seen several of these brothers grow so much in their time in BYX, which should be an encouragement to us all that God can use this fraternity to develop Christian men in a world that needs them more than ever.
After having dinner with the officer corps, we headed to chapter meeting and pledge time. There are 15 pledges at Mizzou this year with a wide variety of backgrounds and personalities. It always blows me away getting to hear stories of how God has worked in guys’ lives.
Saying goodbye Tuesday morning was tough, but I enjoyed breakfast with James Parham and shooting Cole’s presidential video. It is evident that these men continue to work hard to see BYX succeed on campus and also allow God to lead the direction of the chapter.
President Cole Crawford gives an update on the Sigma Chapter.
