1 Samuel 16:7
“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
This verse is found in the story of Samuel as he converses with the Lord and a man named Jesse about his sons. Samuel is asking the Lord which of Jesse’s sons would be anointed.
In our society, I see this story somewhat as the original apprentice. Today we have Donald Trump in his show “the apprentice” bringing in several hungry young men and women looking for a chance to impress with their talents and skills. As they each get the chance to showcase their skills as project manager, they attempt to position themselves in the best possible light to Trump. One by one they are fired for not living up to the standards of a Trump executive until there is one left. The winner receives a nice new car and the right to become the project manager on one of Trump’s new projects.
There is one major difference however. Donald Trump is looking for someone to fit the profile and role of his executive. Someone who looks the part, presents the part, and has the skills and talents of the part. Samuel is looking for the Lord’s man and the Lord clearly says in 1 Samuel 16:7 that the Lord’s man might not fit the profile, look the part, nor have the skills and talents for the job. The question for you is
“Are you striving and working towards the Donald Trump mold or are you striving to become the Lord’s man?”
