Saturday night, I joined some of the actives and friends of mine at a concert benefiting Bryan Sims, who served as President of Texas A&M’s BYX chapter in 2009. Bryan is running for Texas A&M student body President. After the concert, I joined some older actives and alumni for some dominoes at the Dixie Chicken. It was great to gain some perspective from the older men of BYX.
Sunday morning, I went to church with Sean, Tara, and Bryan Sims. I also met some actives there. Sunday night I met for dinner with the officers. These men are a fun group of guys. We followed dinner with an officer meeting that lasted over 4 hours. Thought is was long, it was so great to see the hearts of these men as they planned and made decisions that would better our fraternity.
I started to meet with the officers and Monday. We all discussed the things they have done well this semester, like their new chair structure. We also discussed ways to protect the chapter from falling in unhealthy leadership patterns from the past. These me are determined to develop ways to protect the chapter. Island Party is going to be great yet again this semester as they bring Kutless on campus April 10. The pledgeship process at A&M has changed some over the past semesters. We are working on stabilizing that process and bringing consistency and structure to the new member education process.
Monday night, I joined the guys for chapter. I was able to address the chapter and challenge them with the importance of commitment and how men of commitment leave a legacy. The chapter meeting was very well done. I enjoyed seeing the men together worshiping the Lord. After chapter, we all enjoyed a pancake and pajama social with the lovely ladies of Kappa Alpha Theta, at the Theta house. Tuesday morning, I was able to meet with some guys as well as attempt to go to Bryan Sims’ campaign debate. The debate was postponed due to weather, so I headed back to Fort Worth.
The chapter of BYX in Aggieland is always such an encouraging place to be. We have seen so much growth in this chapter even just after the last semester. These men are learning everyday how to become better leaders. The future leaders in the chapter appear to be strong. We expect to see good things from them in the future.
